ABOUT THE BOX

THE PEOPLE MAKE THE BOX.

A community gym in Poway where the workout gets scaled to the athlete — not the other way around.

The story

EVERYDAY PEOPLE.
EXTRAORDINARY THINGS.

CrossFit Unsung is a community box on Poway Rd. The tagline is the whole idea: everyday people doing extraordinary things. The person next to you might be a first-timer, a parent squeezing in a noon class, a teen learning to squat, or someone who has been training for years. The class is built so all of them can work in the same room.

Gary found CrossFit in 2010 and has been coaching since 2011. The coaching team has grown around the same principle: meet athletes where they are, scale the workout properly, and keep the room welcoming. That is why the schedule and prices are public — you should be able to see whether this place fits before you walk in.

Unsung is part of the neighborhood. Members come from Poway, Scripps Ranch, Rancho Peñasquitos, Carmel Mountain, Miramar and Mira Mesa. The gym has a kid zone adjacent to the workout floor, which makes it easier for parents to train without leaving the kids at home.

What we believe

SCALE THE WORK, NOT THE WELCOME.

The gym is built around one idea: the workout should fit the athlete. Everything else follows from that.

  1. 01

    Meet athletes where they are

Every workout is scaled to the individual. Scaling is coaching, not a shortcut.

  2. 02

    Small classes, real coaching

With 5 to 15 athletes on the floor, a coach can see what each person is doing and adjust it.

  3. 03

    Family friendly

Kids and teens have their own classes, and a kid zone sits adjacent to the adult workout space.

  4. 04

    Nutrition is part of it

Unlimited membership includes nutritional support, and all trainers are familiar with the Paleo Diet.

The space

BUILT FOR THE HOUR.

The floor is built for the way CrossFit actually trains: a pull-up rig, barbells, wall balls, and open space for conditioning. The room is set up so a class can spread out and a coach can move between athletes.

A kid zone sits adjacent to the workout space. For everyone's safety, children must stay in the designated area at all times during a workout.
